What We Do

The Butterfly Movement  is pollinating the planet through our camps, circles, training, experiential workshops and retreats that contain culturally enriched exercises, tools and activities designed to activate a deeper connection with themselves and the earth.

How We Do It

We actively support transformation through the infusion of our Four Transformative Tenets of Personal and Land Development as an underpinning to all our program offerings.
                                                                         Four Transformative Tenets

                                                                                            1. Self-Awareness (REFRAMING: 'out of slavery' model mindset)
                                                                                            2. Self-Acceptance (RECONNECTING: to ancestral/cultural roots)
                                                                                            3. Self-Love (REGENERATING: through bio-regeneration)
                                                                                            4. Self-Responsibility (REACTIVATING: the whole person)

Why We Do It

The process of identity construction is a daunting life task for all human beings, but for women and girls of color, their identity construction is further complicated by having to integrate who they are as both females and minorities in a society in which both racial and gender stereotypes persist. Compounded with issues of cultural displacement and lack of a stable support system, some minority women and girls not only struggle with defining themselves, but also lack basic survival skills that can further thwart the normal and healthy development of a productive and secure self identity and connection to the earth.
